Residencies & Exhibitions

Residencies.

2023. Alfonso Crujera Studio, Gran Canaria, Spain.

2022: Working Artists' Studio Residency, West Cork, Ireland. W.A.S. whose proprietors/artists, Paul and Marie, are painters and printmakers, also work in the residency space above their gallery, featuring work from the local artists.

A three week residency in the far west, during October 2022.  I stayed in a lovely cottage overlooking the sea, and on arrival, the weather was beautiful. Within a couple of days, the rain and the wind became relentless, concluding with the ending of the residency a couple of days early because of the ferries and wild storms in the Irish Sea.

My aim was to work in acrylics, a medium that I'm still not very fond of, and to spend time in the community, experiencing life in this area, more bleak than North Cornwall, where I am based.

The main feature of Ballydehob is a twelve arch viaduct stretching across the inlet. A train used to run from Skibbereen to Bantry Bay. Now abandoned, features of a railway can still be seen along the route. The short main street is lined by the necessary, quirky independent shops, vital pubs selling Guinness and a petrol station. The religious buildings and primary schools are set back from the road.

Not sure about the quality of the work I produced, but it was a great experience!

Exhibitions

Over the years I have been involved, organised and entered many exhibitions, to varying degrees of success. I used to organise 'pop up' galleries at Kings Acre and group shows around Port Isaac. I have also exhibited in regional and local galleries, as below.

The Camelford Gallery

Terre Verte Gallery, Altarnun

The Castle, Bude
